PROLOGUE: TEARS

" WHO ARE YOU FUCKER?! "

Your eyes wandered to the row in front of you, seeing Instructor Shadis cursing at another recruit. It has been like that for a couple of minutes now, some of them almost crying by the temperament of the bald headed man. You, on the other hand, weren't affected by the intimidating aura that was emitted by Shadis. In fact, your expression and features show how bored you were.

You joined the military at the age of 12 years old, after witnessing the fall of Wall Maria by the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan who broke the southern gate with only one blow. At the thought, you cringed your teeth in sadness, hearing the screams of the people in Shiganshina District.

" DON'T KILL ME PLEASE! "

" WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS, MONSTERS?! "

" W-what do y-you want f-from m-me? Please d-don't kill m- "

" PLEASE PUT ME DOWN! I DON'T WANT TO DIE! "

You shook your head violently, returning your expression to a straight face. The humans didn't see you that day, you only appeared shortly after the destruction of the town, which resume to two days after the intrusion of Titans in the fields of Wall Maria. Still, you couldn't stop the memories of this murderous day coming back in your mind. Though, were you not already used to it? You were a monster after all.

" Your tears are all the pay I will ever need " you thought bitterly, your eyes narrowing when the Instructor made a stop in front of you.

Shadis leaned over you, his breath on your face. You subconsciously took a step back, finding him evading your space abruptly. Quit strange that he would pick on you, after passing all those who had a stoic expression. Their expression distinguish them from the others as being present the day Wall Maria fell. You were one of them. So why? Did you have, by any chance, a different kind of expression? Do your eyes reflect what you did when the Titans attacked?

" Who are you, coward? " asked Shadis.

" My name is (Y/N) (L/N), Sir " you said, doing the salute while keeping the same expression on your face.

" What the hell is your purpose for being here apart Titans food? "

" Kill every last one of you. That's my purpose, Sir... " you wanted to say.

You stared down in silence at your feet for a moment, and then you caught turquoise eyes who were staring in wonder at you. He was asking himself if you experienced the same thing as him. You could tell from his expression. The way his eyes were roaming over your body like they wanted to seek out your secrets, your pains and fears. You had no emotions, only a monster wearing a human skin. Your gaze hardened and you turned away from him to glare back at Shadis.

" ...Fight my enemies... " you simply said.

You walked in the cafeteria, sitting down all alone at a table far away from the crowd. You weren't a shy, you just despite people. Mostly humans. You observed the recruits of the 104th Trainees Squad, recognizing few faces. That Armin blond guy, who was yelled at by the bald man. That Jean asshole who keeps talking about joining the Military Police, the military branch who were lazy butts and cowards like him. Marco who wants to serve the king loyally and Connie who did the salute on the wrong side. What an idiot. Finally, there was that guy. Eren Jaeger.

He was the new star in the trainees right now, recruits asking him what he saw that day. You sighed when he started to ramble on about how we could easily face the Titans after the three years of training. That lunatic didn't know what he was saying anymore. Titans are, unless you're a professional at it, difficult to kill for numerous reasons. One of them being the fact that if you lost your gas on your rampage, you find yourself unable to fight them back and they can eat without any second thought. You don't kill Titans whenever you want: you need to use your brain too.

That's when Annie sat down next to you, not giving you a look. You stared at her by the corner of your eyes and nodded slightly. She came from the same village as you. You weren't the best of friends, but you both weren't enemies too. It was...a difficult relationship.

" Any memories? " she asked out of the blue and you thought about it for a moment.

" Yes " you replied and she sighed.

" From your father or...? "

" That day "

" I see "

It was always short sentences, no long conversation or anything alike. You two didn't need to speak a lot to understand each other. You were probably the only one she could trust, for now. Someone she could rely on. That's when you heard something screeching and you stared back at the table where Eren was sitting at to see him having a fight with Jean.

" I'm going back to the bunkers " you muttered coldly and Annie nodded her head, her bangs moving with the motion.

You stood up and you were about to exit the cafeteria when you felt something touching your ass. Growling, you turned around to glare at a smirking trainee.

" Why don't you stay a little longer, hm? " the boy said and you narrowed your eyes.

" No thank you " you said, walking away but the boy caught your wrist.

" Why now? You hate me already? "

" I don't hate you. I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence... "

" Please, at least sit with us! I'm pretty sure we could have some fun! "

" I don't know what your problem is, but I'm going to bet it's really hard for you to pronounce " you greeted your teeth in anger and you gave a warning look to Annie to not interfere. The blond girl was ready to kill him. " Now, let me go or else you will regret it "

" Oohhh, I'm eager to see that "

Now the cafeteria was silent. Even Jean and Eren stopped their fight to stare at the two of you. You furrowed your brows and sighed slightly. Before he could even blink, you took his arm and thrown him over your shoulder, slamming his body on the hard floor. He coughed blood and tried to stand up but you put a foot on his chest, pressing it in his ribs cage that you almost broke them. Annie hold you back, shaking your shoulder.

" Don't waste your time on him " she said.

You clicked your tongue in annoyance and followed her outside. The moment you exited the room, you caught the gaze of Eren on you.

Walking beside Annie, you looked up at the sky with wonder.

" You should watch out with who you fight with... " she said and you glared at her.

" What do you mean? " you asked with a brow raised.

" You attract too much attention on you... "

" What? You want me to become a lone wolf just like you? I'm trying, you know? It isn't my fault if people wants to be friend or wants to know me... "

" Whatever, just do as we said the moment before we entered the military " said Annie coldly and you rolled your eyes.

" Yeah, yeah..."

You stopped abruptly and stared at your hands. The same ones who had blood on them not so long ago.

" Annie...am I a monster? " you asked.

She didn't answer your question and merely walked away, leaving you behind. You blinked slowly and continued your way toward the bunkers of the girls.

" W-WAIT! " someone yelled behind you.

You barely had the time to turn that something collided with your back and you fell on the ground, the person on top of you. You groaned darkly and stared at the stranger who was straddling your back. It was that Jaeger boy. Again.

" S-Sorry! " he said quickly, blushing furiously while standing up.

" It's okay " you mumbled, standing up too without taking the hand Eren was offering you. " What do you want? "

" You're (Y/N) (L/N), right? I'm- "

" Eren Jaeger. I already know " you cut him and he gave you a surprised expression. " Now answer my damn question: what do you want from me? And make it quick, I'm tired... "

" I-it's just...I wanted to get to know you, so I was wondering if- "

" No " you responded sharply, turning your back to him but Eren caught your arm before you could walk away.

" Please! There is something I want to ask you but your answer may be too long! I'm just asking you to come early in the cafeteria so we could discuss quietly and then I will leave you alone. For a long time "

You glared at him for a moment before sighing exasperatedly.

" Okay " you finally said and he smiled brightly.

" Thank you! Good night, (Y/N)! "

You didn't wish good night, you only stared at his retreating form with a confused expression. Morning finally came and you were already up, waiting patiently for Eren in the cafeteria. That's when you saw him and he quickly sat down in front of you. He took a deep breath and:

" Were you there that day? "

" You mean at the fall of Wall Maria...? Yes...I was. Is that all? " you said.

" N-no. It's just...Your expression back there intrigued me....It looked...deathly. Did the Titans kill...someone you care about a lot? If it isn't personal, of course! "

Your eyes widened like saucers and you stared at him with a dumbfounded expression. Why does he want to know that? Your gaze fixed itself on the table.

"...I had a father once. I came from a small village, the same one as Annie, Reiner and Bertholdt...You know, the blond guy with the giant? " you mentioned with your hands and the brown haired boy nodded. " Anyway...I don't know what happened to him... "

It was a lie. The truth was more terrible and it was one of the primal reason of you wanting to kill them.

" My father and I come from the Outside "

" Ah...I see. So, which branch do you want to join if you pass the test today? " asked Eren. " I will go in the Survey Corps "

Silence filled the air and you entwined your hands together, leaning your chin on them with a thoughtful face.

You let your hands fall down on the table, your bangs shading a part of your face. You stared at him with only one eye, which a tear cascaded down your cheek.

" I'm sorry...So sorry for everything... " you said and he stared at you with a confused expression, more when you started to sob.
